I wandered early into church,
Alone with no one watching.
I stood behind the sacred desk,
And dreamed a dream pretending.
I dreamed a dream when faith began,
When dreams were born to treasure.
I dreamed a dream that I would chase,
Until we lived together.
The devil whispered in my ear,
When perched upon my shoulder.
He lied to me like he did to Eve,
To grind my dream to powder.
I ignored the serpent’s subtle hiss,
And quenched his fiery dart.
Then knocked him off my shoulder,
O wicked one depart.
I dreamed a dream when I was young,
Alone one day pretending.
A dream from which I’ll never run,
A dream I’ll chase believing.
But there are dreams that cannot be,
Some dreams are lost forever.
But there are dreams that I will chase,
Until we live together.
